Communication
177 Patients from 92 villages attended clinics at Dasasamudram and Navapatty Health Centres in December. Flower market a regular seasonal occupation and unusual heavy rains for over forty days reflected on the charts.
The Health supervisor and his team of three Health Workers visit residents of Madayankuttai village at Mettur on 09 December. Ten famalies of 50 members were enumerated (25 Males, 20 Women, 3 Male Children and 2 Female Children-Four pictures). Clinic on 10 December was conducted and a middle aged lady was treated for surgical dressing operated at Coimbatore. Picture shows patient with healing wound after sepsis, left foot. A. 40 patients were screened at both centres. Accessible health care explained and how they could approach it. Early sings in Leprosy, Tuberculosis and their consequences explained to them.

December Activities
Acwerk Monthly Meeting was conducted on 31 December, 2010 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eight of us were in the meeting at Acwerk Admin Office at Salem, New Fairlands. 
Medical activities for the period December 2010 in various departments were discussed and reported in detail. New formats were given for reporting.

6 Clinics were conducted during the month at both centre's. 177 medical consultations were made. Twenty Six Leprosy patients and Seventeen Tuberculosis patients are under treatment.

Prevention of Deformity in Leprosy

M. Kandhaswamy, 70 year old manual worker from Danishpet examined for early signs in Leprosy on 01 December, 2010


Seven Leprosy patients and three patients with Orthopedic problems were treated at both Centres this month. 

1. Cranial and Trunk nerves were markedly thickened, examined by D. Joseph-Health Supervisor at Dasasamudaram Health Centre on 15 December, 2010














2. Both Ulnar Nerves were grossly thickened but not tender and there was wasting of muscles on right fore-arm.









3. Swelling of right hand and wasting of fore-arm noted. Grip on right hand low and opponens action almost nil. The wasting and swelling were due to a trauma of right fore-arm and not related to early Leprosy. 
29 December on his second review, thickened cranial and trunk nerves had completely resolved. 
Right Hand-Swelling had reduced and tone right fore-arm had markedly improved.

Medicines

Medicines
Medicines were issued to 177 patients at both centre’s.
7 Leprosy patients and 13 Tuberculosis patients received drugs for the period. 
48 prescriptions in Skin patients
109 prescriptions in General Medicine, were issued.

Lab Screening

42 Patients were screened in lab for Early Leprosy, Tuberculosis and General Medical problems for the month at both centre's. 
Skin smear in Leprosy, Sputum smear and Tuberculin Testing in Tuberculosis is a routine carried out at the main centre three days a week. Routine screening of Tuberculosis, Diabetics and screening of General Medical problems are done on request of doctor.
